 tacadang LAF turnover 2016

hree more livelihood interest groups of Tacadang, Kibungan received their livelihood aid from the Second Cordillera Highland Agricultural Resource Management Project (CHARMP2) during the Livelihood Assistance Fund Transfer on Nov. 8, 2016 held in Tacadang Proper.

Tacadang which is the largest barangay of Kibungan with 7,235.2121 total land area is accessible only by foot due to its deep ravines and cliffs that separate and isolate the area from the outside world. Agricultural farming particularly rice including other commodities such as coffee, sugarcane and roots and tuber crops are their main source of living.

The three livelihood groups namely Tacadang Organic Coffee Growers Association, Tacadang Rural Improvement Club, and Les-eng Women's Organization received Php100,000, Php50,000 and Php50,000, respectively. These livelihood grants were given for the continuation and improvement of their livelihoods based from their proposed and approved business plans. They will be maintaining their businesses on coffee consolidation and 'basi' or sugarcane wine production; sugarcane production, marketing and consolidation; and pigs and feeds retailing.

Mr. Teodoro Danglay, president of TOCGA, emphasized that active participation, transparency and honesty of members are among the key elements that keeps their business alive. He likened their business to a lamp that continues to radiate light without being turned-off. "Mantultuloy kuma ay adi madmad-ep (May it continue without being turned-off)," he said.

Ms. Denialyn Pis-et from the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist further encouraged the farmer groups to keep in mind on their organizational goal and the very purpose of the livelihood assistance granted to them. This, accordingly, will enable them to properly utilize their money while aiming to reach their desired goals as a group and as members of the community.//Janice B. Agrifino
